EMPOWERMENT WORKSHOP - WEDNESDAY 12 JUNE and WEDNESDAY 3 JULY 2024 (takes place over two sessions)
Have you ever known that the way your child has been treated, or is being treated, is wrong, but not known what to do about it?
Have you ever felt dis-empowered and helpless even though you know that your child should be getting extra support? If so, this workshop is for you.
After a successful pilot project, STAND received funding from the National Lottery to extend the Empowerment Workshop project further. Therefore, with much thanks due to the National Lottery, STAND is running its 2 session Empowerment Workshop again, and you're welcome to join us! This time it will take place in Ayr, at the Premier Inn (A77/Racecourse).
Join our Chair and Empowerment Manager, Lizzie, and other members of the legal profession, who will walk you through the basics of empowering yourself to know your rights and exercise them. The Workshop will take place over two 3-hour sessions:
Wednesday 12th June 2024, 6.30pm until 9.30pm - Who can help me and how do I make them help? How to correspond with local authorities, health boards, the government and politicians. Advice on drafting emails, attending meetings and completing application forms. At our last workshop Minister for Housing, Paul McLennan MSP, joined us, and the Scottish Government’s Minister for Social Care, Mental Wellbeing and Sport is attending our Edinburgh workshop. We hope to arrange a similar guest speaker for this session too.
Wednesday 3rd July 2024, 6.30pm until 9.30pm - What are my rights? Learn the basics of equalities legislation, education rights, housing rights and your rights to access information.
Both sessions will take place in the Premier Inn at Ayr A77/Racecourse (https://www.premierinn.com/gb/en/hotels/scotland/strathclyde/ayr/ayr-a77racecourse.html)
These are adult-only workshops. We appreciate that lack of childcare can be a barrier, and will endeavour to run virtual versions of the workshops in due course. However, we do encourage you to try and come along in person if that is at all manageable given the benefit of peer support and interaction.
You will get the most benefit if you can attend both sessions. Lizzie and the STAND team will provide you with information and materials to take away with you. The aim is for you to feel empowered and armed to challenge decisions or practices with which you do not agree.
Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided, and members of the STAND Management Team will also attend to offer extra support.
The workshop tickets are a nominal fee of £5 (which covers both sessions) which contributes to the running costs of STAND, however please email us if you would like to attend but have difficulty with finances and we can waive that fee if it would be a barrier to your attendance.
PLEASE NOTE - ONE TICKET COVERS ATTENDANCE AT BOTH SESSIONS
