Farmers Helping Farmers is a registered P.E.I. charity based in Charlottetown. For over 45 years, this volunteer-driven group has partnered with small-scale farmers in Kenya to foster sustainable agriculture, food security, and community empowermentStarting as reciprocal learning exchanges between Island and East African farms, Farmers Helping Farmers has grown to support hundreds of practical development initiatives—with over $10 million CAD invested, positively impacting more than 100,000 livesTheir work spans:Training women farmers in crop production, irrigation, composting, and nutritional gardeningEstablishing school cookhouses, gardens, meal programs, and clean water systemsPartnering with Atlantic Veterinary College on dairy herd health and milk-quality trainingOrganizing youth exchanges and skill-sharing visits between P.E.I. and Kenyan schoolsDriven by personal, one-on-one mentorship, the group’s grassroots projects directly strengthen farming families in Meru and other regions of Kenya—one grow‑bag, rainwater tank, or dairy‑management training session at a timeOperating entirely on volunteer effort and charitable donations, including support from Global Affairs Canada through the Gender Responsive One Health Project with Alinea International, Farmers Helping Farmers remains deeply rooted in the Island agricultural community—showing that even small provinces like P.E.I. can make a major impact halfway around the world.
