Paul McMahon is a multifaceted fixture of the cultural landscape of Woodstock and beyond. His wide-ranging and often low profile activities have been mentioned in the New York Times, which, on different occasions has noticed his bumperstickers, performance art, curating, visual art and music. He has produced ten albums, around 100 songs, most of which can be found on Youtube and Bandcamp. His visual art has been shown at and is in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum. The archives of a series of art shows he put on in the early 70s was acquired by Bard College’s Center for Curatorial Studies in 2010. He was Assistant Director of Artists Space 75-77, helped start the Knitting Factory, Dharmaware Cafe and currently runs the Mothership in Woodstock, an everything center and social sculpture. He played in Glenn Branca’s first guitar composition, duelled one-liners on TV with Soupy Sales and delivered mail to Jim Henson, David Bowie and Dr. John. Linda Mary Montano has performed with him as his doppelgänger at music shows since 2007. He was ordained an Interfaith minister in 1996, and has single-parented twin girls since 2001. He invented and has marketed a cat toy since 1988. He is the Rock’n’Roll Therapist and author of the Welcome to Woodstock bumpersticker series. In 1997 he noticed that Woodstock was the most famous small town on earth. A few years later he also noticed that Ramakrishna’s disciple Vivekenanda delivered the first address in the West (Chicago) on Hinduism; a lecture on interfaith tolerance to the World Parliament of Religions 108 years to the day before 9/11. He is working on multiple projects including a multi-media autobiography.
