Mission"Providing families, parents and caregivers with resources to help improve the family's experience during a child's difficult hospital stay."The Babygirl Foundation is a Maine based, 501 (c) (3) recognized, charitable organization created by Tammy and David Dube in loving memory and in honor of their daughter Addison, who passed away just shy of her 11th birthday. Founded in 2019Our StoryOur story started back in July of 2008, when our daughter Addison was born. We knew right away that we were starting down a long and challenging journey. When Addison was less than a week old she was diagnosed with a genetic condition called Smith-Lemli-Opitz Syndrome. As a result, we spent the first month in the hospital, mostly in Pediatric Intensive Care Unit caring for her.After countless tests, procedures, surgeries and hopeful thoughts we decided to bring Addison home. There was nothing left to try, so we packed up and left for home with Addison not expected to survive the short car ride home. In true Addison style and with her fighting spirit, we were fortunate to get 10 birthdays with her. We witnessed her defy the odds with every moment and inspire all who were lucky to know her.In those 10 years, we spent hundreds of nights and days in the Barbara Bush Children's Hospital's various units. When Addison's brother was born in April of 2013, logistics became overwhelming as her time in the hospital became more frequent. The resulting years were incredibly difficult and draining on our small family to find any type of normalcy.Through all the challenges, Addison was the sweetest little girl with a smile that brightened up the room.Our InitiativeParent's ClosetAt The Barbara Bush Children's Hospital PICU and NICU"We know this day was unexpected, we've been there too. We hope some of these items can bring comfort to you and your family."~The Babygirl FoundationThis initiative was created by us at the Babygirl Foundation in the fall of 2019, in honor of our daughter Addison. Our hope is that families who have unexpected or unplanned hospitalization will be able to have comforts from home, specifically for parents.Parents or caregivers will receive a "Parent's Closet Menu" upon admission. The menu will feature various toiletries such as, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes, in addition to comforts from home like cozy blankets, phone chargers, journals, sweatpants and t-shirts. Parents will be able to choose items that would help them be more comfortable while supporting their child in the hospital setting.​PICU Testimonial~"The parents are extremely grateful to be able to take a shower and put on different clothes than what they have been living in for the past 24 hours."~"A patient needed to be brought to the PICU via life-flight and mom drove directly to the hospital from work to meet them. She arrived with only her work uniform and no comforts items. Thanks to the Parent's Closet, we were able to provide her with a comfortable change of clothes, blanket and toiletries to help her to feel the best she could and be prepared to support her child at bedside."​~"This amazing resource is so fantastic to have at work! I've had parents so focused on their critically sick child that they left their house without SHOES even on and are now faced with being stuck in the hospital for days. You can see the relief on their faces when I explain what this foundation provides to help. I always say, a parent can't be there to support a sick kid when they aren't taking care of themselves first.
