The Crescent Arts Centre (CAC) was officially formed early in 2017 as an independent third-party not-for-profit offshoot of Crescent Fort Rouge United Church (CFRUC) at 525 Wardlaw Avenue) which has successfully supported the arts community for many decades. CAC operates with an independent board under an MOU with CFRUC.CAC was launched to advance the use of a century old church for the arts and to support innovation, emerging artists and partner arts organizations who need this type of space, known for its excellence as a performance venue because of its outstanding acoustics. In recent years, the use of the building began to increase as it fills the need for a concert venue in the city of this size. It has additional space which has become a great rehearsal hall for a number of theatre companies and choirs. The mission of the CAC is to:1. Intentionally create a welcoming hub for artistic endeavours of all kinds and social and community engagement.2. Provide a home for the arts to:• Promote public access to the arts;• Provide a forum for artists to exhibit, perform or present their work; and• Provide support and training.3. Help preserve and maintain the CFRUC as a historically significant building with exceptional acoustic performance spaces.During the past 18 months during Covid-19, the space has taken on increased importance. It offers the ability to social distance but also the ability to reduce rent to accommodate struggling artists and organizations. CAC schedules and manages the events and provides technical and marketing support and ensures that strict health regulations are followed.
