Founded in 2019 by Melissa DeChellis, Adaptively Abled was born out of a personal journey of resilience and determination. After losing her leg due to complications from a traumatic softball sliding injury, Melissa experienced firsthand the lack of resources available for individuals with physical disabilities beyond rehabilitation. While Boston offered excellent rehab programs, there was a noticeable gap in support for individuals looking to reclaim an active, fulfilling lifestyle.Adaptively Abled was created to bridge that gap—providing a welcoming, empowering community where individuals can connect, grow, and thrive. We offer monthly virtual support groups, community adaptive and inclusive workouts, and social hours to keep our members engaged and supported. Beyond virtual programming, we host exciting in-person events like sailing, kayaking, bowling, rock climbing, picnics, cookouts, and yoga.To further our mission, we hold fundraising events that help support our signature program, Adaptively Abled Fitness—a holistic wellness initiative that provides individual and group personal training, mindset coaching, meditation, yoga, and alternative therapies for overall well-being and pain management. At Adaptively Abled, we believe that rehabilitation is just the beginning—and that everyone deserves the opportunity to lead an active, empowered, and joyful life.
