Simone Darcy - Artist & EducatorI am a contemporary photographic artist whose practice expands beyond traditional photography, embracing historical and experimental processes to explore the intersections of the body, materiality, and transformation. I primarily work with cameraless techniques, manipulating photosensitive materials to create handmade images that blur the boundaries between representation and abstraction. These alchemical processes, often involving chemical painting, photograms, and light-sensitive emulsions, capture traces of touch, movement, and time—imbuing my works with an ephemeral, almost performative quality.My work is deeply informed by my lived experience as a woman, artist, and mother. Through layered imagery and experimental mark-making, I examine the physical and psychological effects of the body, engaging with themes of embodiment, ritual, and the passage of time. Performance is also central to my practice, not as a direct documentation but as a means of constructing still images that evoke transformation and the unseen forces shaping identity.
