Soroptimist International is part of a worldwide network of Clubs with more than 66,000 members in 121 Countries. As a volunteering organisation, our Clubs are actively engaged in projects and activities for the benefit of the public across the world and in particular, to improve the lives of women and children through education, empowerment and action. Our work is based around the objectives of the advancement of: education; health and saving lives; equality and diversity; human rights throughout the world; good citizenship and community development and the relief and/or prevention of poverty.We promote the United Nations Sustainable Goals that focus on People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace and Partnerships.Harrogate & District Soroptimists work locally includes support for our local Women's Refuge; Food Banks in the Harrogate District, Wetherby and Ripon as well as Resurrected Bites; Working in partnership with a local School on a Sharing our Skills project and a project raising funds to provide additional Student Counselling Support; Raising awareness of trafficking and slavery in Yorkshire, lobbying MPs on key issues of interest such as domestic violence and social care.Internationally we have supported education of children and women prisoners in Malawi through local Soroptimists; Toilet Twinning - Flushing away Poverty, One Toilet at a Time, Funded the provision of Generators for families in Ukraine via Jeeps for Peace.Website: sigbi.org/harrogate.
