AWARE is the depression charity for Northern Ireland, supporting people living with depression, anxiety and bipolar disorder.
Established in Derry/Londonderry in 1996, we have a large network of peer-led support groups across NI, run by a team of trained volunteers, many of whom have personal experience of mental ill-health. Support groups welcome people experiencing depression, anxiety and bipolar disorder and carers for people with the illness. They offer a safe space to talk openly, share experiences and discuss coping strategies.
We have a support phone line and email service for anyone seeking further information about mental health.AWARE delivers educational mental health and wellbeing programmes and workshops to community groups, school children and teachers, universities and workplaces, which teach attendees about mental health and techniques to look after it. Our vision is of a future where people can talk about their mental health openly, access services appropriate to their needs and have the skills and knowledge to maintain positive mental health. At AWARE, we believe that the people who use our services should have a say in how they are developed and delivered, so we employ people with experience of depression at every level in the organisation, including the Board of Trustees.
