At Sewing Tutor workshops, Learners create their own Sewing Tutor by making a portfolio of skill samples which becomes their how-to reference guide for subsequent projects. We do this through group & 1-2-1 skills & project based workshops, for beginners to intermediate.Addressing environmental issues, we encourage makers to prioritise upcycling, customizing, repairing and altering clothing and household items wherever possible. We address the cost-of-living crisis in various ways through reusing existing fabric items in new and innovative ways; and by teaching a marketable skill enabling income generation. Sewing Tutor Workshops also address wellbeing & the mental health crisis as they draw people out of isolation into small groups, encouraging connection, & build confidence through upskilling. Sewing Tutor works! And it's engaging and fun!Since launching in 2016, Sewing Tutor© has undertaken many voluntary workshops throughout Sri Lanka in collaboration with Child Action Lanka, to see underprivileged lives changed. Several women are now earning as a result of undertaking these workshops and three sewing centres have opened. Students in the UK also continue to make and earn.
