Over 310,000 people of Italian descent call Los Angeles home. The surroundingregion is home to almost a million more. Yet unlike the other cities where large numbers ofItalian Americans live, Los Angeles has no Little Italy. The Little Italy of Los AngelesAssociation (or LILAA), a 501(c)(3) non-proft, aims to change that.LILAA’s mission is to create a central gathering spot to highlight the lives, language,culture, and stories of Italians in Los Angeles. For our location, LILAA has selected abeautiful, waterfront spot in Los Angeles’ San Pedro neighborhood. San Pedro is the lastremaining ethnic enclave of Italian Americans in Los Angeles, and our history there datesback over a century.The centerpiece of Los Angeles’ Little Italy will be a magnificent piazza similar to thebest in Italy. It will be flanked by Italian restaurants, shops, and cultural experiences in thecommercial corridor surrounding it. Our future location is “Pepper TreePlaza” on the south side of Sixth Street, between Beacon Street and Harbor Boulevard in Downtown San Pedro.
