Future Radio is Norwich’s Community Radio Station and now the only local radio station broadcasting to the 381,000 people living in the Greater Norwich area.We engage the community, build skills and provide opportunities through great music, conversation and peopleFuture Radio is one of the longest running community radio stations in the UK. We received our full-time broadcast licence in 2005 and since then we have been Norwich’s Community Station, broadcasting for and about the people, organisations, businesses, culture, news and events in our City.Community radio stations are run for, and by, people in their communities. They are powered by volunteers and offer anyone the opportunity to get involved with radio, develop new skills, have their voice heard and take part in their communityManaged by a small team of staff, our volunteers create and present shows, interviews, features and podcasts representing their interests, specialist music genres, culture, groups and goings-on in Norwich.Future Radio is operated by around 70 volunteers, who present and produce shows, source local news stories, carry out administrative tasks and anything else needed to run a radio station.Local people choose to get involved with Future Radio for all sorts of reasons, such as representing their interests or community on-air, learning new skills, or feeling more involved with their community.Our volunteers use their time with us to build on their skills and experiences, many go on to have successful careers in the media or other industries, such as Greg James (Radio 1), Thordis Fridriksson (Radio Cambridgeshire) and Sam Day (Radio Norfolk & The Community Radio Male Presenter of the Year 2019). Many Future volunteers are now also working at local media organisations, including the Eastern Daily Press and Norwich Evening News.
