Sometimes tragedy strikes a family and sometimes it strikes a community. Every now and then it will hit both at one time and you pull together as one. On December 30th, 2022 that exact thing happened. On that day, 14 year old Cole Ellis of Sugar Grove, NC was tragically killed on his tractor while feeding cattle. On that day we as a farming family and community experienced a pain that no one should ever have to experience, the loss of a son, a neighbor, a friend. What you need to know about Cole is that he wasn’t your typical 14 year old boy, he was a 40 year old man trapped in a kid's body. He could work circles around any teenager and men twice his age. He knew a hard day’s work and wasn’t afraid of it. He could push cows, pull calves, band bulls, stretch fence, drive posts, cut hay and at the end of the day, go home and watch a good John Wayne movie with his family. He was a farmer. His dream was to be a lineman like his dad and to one day run Ellis Cattle Company. To honor Cole, we have developed the “Cole Ellis Memorial Fund”. This fund will financially assist local High School seniors going into college for agriculture or trades schools, the two things Cole knew. It willalso help fund agriculture programs in the school system and community.Through Cole’s life we hope to make the same impact in our community ashe did in our lives. Thank you for your support.
