Our Mission - Empowering our community with toolsThe Cville Tool Library aims to be a collective and collaborative space for empowering our community with tools. It is a place where community members can borrow tools, similar to books at the library, for home repair, maintenance, and personal projects without having to buy and store tools they might only use a handful of times. We hope a shared tool collection will be an efficient way to broaden access to tools to a wide range of folks in Charlottesville and Albemarle. In the future, we hope to teach, train, and empower folks in making, repairing, and maintenance to build up responsible homeowners, aspiring entrepreneurs, and enthusiastic makers in our community. Our VisionThe Tool Library is also a nexus of community interests that far exceeds the square footage of storage of physical tools. It fosters a vibrant community of those wanting to learn and those wanting to teach. It constructs a shared platform for building up our community’s confidence, resilience, and independence in an environment that invites people to give back and keep driving the community forward. It might be a place to start off by just borrowing a jigsaw, but is the place to revisit and engage over and over again to meet new neighbors, to grow one’s skills, and to empower our city and county.
