Derwen College is a specialist day and residential college for young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).Based in Shropshire, we have four sites across the county at Gobowen, Ludlow, Telford and Walford.The award-winning college provides a rich learning environment for young people, aged 16-25 with many conditions. There are no ‘typical’ students at Derwen College. We offer residential and day placements to students with a wide range of special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), which can include:Learning and physical disabilitiesAutismBehaviours of concernMedical needsModerate, severe, complex or profound and multiple learning disabilitiesBuilding confidence and skillsDerwen College’s specialism is building employability skills through authentic work opportunities in onsite commercial outlets and off-campus with partners in the wider community. The vocational options offered are designed to meet industry standards, preparing students for the job market.At our main site in Gobowen, pathway options offered include: Hospitality and Food; Horticulture; Performing Arts; Retail and Enterprise; Learning for Life; and Nurture (our PMLD offer).At our satellite sites, options include: Work and Independence pathway, or Supported Internships programme.Individualised learningIndividualised learning includes a comprehensive Personal Development and Independence programme. Students are supported to begin learning to care for themselves, shop, cook, develop road safety skills and extend their abilities in inter-personal relationships as they prepare for adulthood.At Derwen College, we believe that students develop their independence best when they work on it in a real environment.For more information, please visit the website:www.derwen.ac.uk
