Fibre has always fascinated me.My father ran a cotton textile and yarn mill in the small, Southern Indian town of Madurai. My grandmother taught me how to use fibre in art when I was eight. I later went on to study textile design and the art of woven fabric in Mumbai.Moving to Sydney 26 years ago, I now live on the Gold Coast as an artist of woven textiles. As a tapestry weaver, my work reflects current affairs and my surroundings with traditional techniques and contemporary themes. I sustainably dye and spin local fibers into yarn and weave them into my creations. I often work from the ‘ground up’ processing raw sheep and alpaca fleeces.I also enjoy felting, knitting, crochet and weaving scarves and jackets that I showcase at art events.Natural dyes particularly fascinate me for the magic in unexpected ingredients. Each piece responds to the world around me, capturing moments of change and sustainability. Through my tapestries' textures and colors, I aim to connect viewers with the natural world and pressing issues of our time.
