Spoonie Girls Yoga(SGY) was born from a girl entering womanhood believing that it was normal to be in pain, and she was told to not complain.“Spoonie” refers to someone who identifies with theSPOON THEORY, a metaphor used to explain the limited energy and resources that people with chronic pain have each day. It originated from a personal story written byChristine Miserandino, where she used spoons to represent units of energy.
Each activity, like getting dresses or cooking a meal, costs a certain number of spoons. The term has been embraced by the chronic illness community as a way to describe their daily struggles and manage their energy levels effectively. It fosters understanding and solidarity among those facing similar challenges.
