About This Event

FIRST® LEGO® League Discover (grades PreK-1)

FIRST® LEGO® League Explore (grades 2-4)

Join us for a combined FIRST® LEGO® League Discover and Explore in-person professional development at the ® Tech Challenge in-person professional development at NASA Stennis Center in Mississippi. You will work with other teachers during this two-day learning experience that provides you with all the tools you need to facilitate this FIRST® program and achieve STEM learning objectives in your classroom.

PLEASE NOTE: The first session starts on Monday, August 26, 2024 from 8:30am - 5:30pm. The second session is on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, from 8:30am - 3:30pm. Please make travel arrangements to allow to attend both sessions the full amount of time.

As a participant in the FIRST® LEGO® League Discover and Explore immersive learning experience you will:

  • Learn to foster student computational thinking and collaboration skills, and how to guide students through the science behind the Explore theme and facilitate the creative design of a solution to a real-world problem
  • Utilize, model, and reinforce the FIRST® Core Values
  • Work in small groups with other attendees using the FIRST® LEGO® League Discover Set and LEGO® Education® STEAM Park
  • Work in small groups with other attendees using a LEGO® Education SPIKE™ Essential robot set
  • Participate in the FIRST® LEGO® League Explore experience from a student's point of view and more!

FIRST will provide:

  • FIRST ® LEGO League Discover Set
  • LEGO® Education STEAM Park
  • FIRST® LEGO® League Explore Set
  • LEGO® Education SPIKE Essential Set
  • Digital copies of the Team Meeting Guide and Engineering Notebook

You need to bring:

  • Computer with Internet Access
  • Software downloaded prior to first session – https://education.lego.com/en-us/downloads - Select Spike Essential and then click on the drop arrow to choose your device for downloading– note: be sure to download, install and restart your computer

PLEASE NOTE - Cancellation Policy:

FIRST Cancellation: A minimum of 4 participants are required. You will be notified 2 weeks prior if there is not a minimum of participants. If a cancellation occurs, you will be given additional options to attend a different cohort.

Participant Cancellation: Paid FIRST Professional Development is nonrefundable. If you are unable to attend the paid Professional Development and need to cancel your registration, you may reschedule up to one time to a future date, but within 12 months of the original date. Substitutions (one individual for another) are allowed at any time. Please let us know your intent within 72 hours before the start date by sending an email to FIRSTEducation@firstinspires.org. If you do not cancel within 72 hours and do not attend the workshop you will forfeit the opportunity to reschedule.

NOTE: If you reside in Connecticut, New Mexico, South Dakota or West Virginia sales tax applies. Please email FIRSTEducation@firstinspires.org to receive registration payment instructions for these states, or to provide us with a tax-exempt form. Full payment must be received for admission to this session. If payment is received without applicable taxes, we will contact you.
