Chiara Berardelli always knew she wanted to be a songwriter but didn't manage to convince her school guidance teacher. She left her job as a doctor to follow her passion and self-released her first album at the tender age of 42.Her songs are an evocative collision of her piano-led love of harmony and fiercely honest lyrics and have been featured on Radio Scotland's Afternoon Show as Single Of The Week.Chiara's latest album, Archaeology, represents the discovery of her buried creativity after leaving her medical job for good. Slow in the making due to her having Long Covid, there has been a gentle maturing of the songs and the result is …'captivating'… Fatea MagazineIn 2010 Chiara recorded her debut album 'Don't Be So Lovely' with Mark Freegard in Glasgow, (Eddi Reader, Del Amitri) and self-released a further EP, My Big Mouth, in 2014.Seamonster, a collection of songs inspired by the loss of her dream of becoming a mother was recorded in Glasgow's Hidden Lane with Johnny Smillie (Cosmic Rough Riders. Constant Follower) and released in 2018 to critical acclaim.Deep Space Hibernation, the lead single from the album, was Radio Scotland's Janice Forsyth's Single of the Week and also won an International Songwriting Award.Chiara collaborated with writer and director Rachel McJury to produce an intimate performance of the album's ten songs woven into a recounting of her experience of being childless-not-by-choice and her quest to be ok with that.Seamonster, the Story appeared at The Barbican in April 2019 as part of Fertility Fest and Edinburgh's Free Fringe Festival in August of the same year.Chiara has continued to work with producer Johnny Smillie on her new album, Archaeology.Lockdown led to a new writing collaboration with Biff Smith (of Glasgow band A New International).Being forced to work slowly because of having Long Covid has led to a gentle maturing of the songs, reflects Chiara and an attention to detail that captures the essence of the original demos.Archaeology is released on vinyl, CD and digitally by Last Night From Glasgow, a patron funded, not for profit record label.
