Honorary Lieutenant-Colonel Joanne Seviour served 33 years in the Canadian Armed Forces, beginning with the Royal Canadian Sea Cadets and later commissioning as an Army Logistics Officer. She held key leadership roles in both the Regular and Reserve Forces, including Commanding Officer of the Atlantic Region’s Civil-Military Cooperation Unit and senior staff positions in logistics and personnel.In 2004, she deployed to Afghanistan as a Civil-Military Cooperation Officer on General Hillier’s staff, engaging with local leaders, aid agencies, and embassies. She later trained for a second deployment but was sidelined by a rare heart condition, leading to two open-heart surgeries and a decade-long healing journey.Now a certified stretch therapist and mindfulness teacher, she helps others navigate recovery and personal growth. She holds a BSc in Chemistry from Memorial University and a Master’s in Environmental Science from Dalhousie. Her military honors include the General Campaign Star – South-West Asia and the Chief of Defence Staff Commendation. An avid sailor and skier, she continues to inspire through teaching, writing, and speaking on leadership and resilience.
