In August 2011, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial in Washington, DC opened to the public. Since its opening, millions of people from all walks of life have visited the Memorial. The Memorial’s prestigious location on the National Mall and impactful design featuring the Stone of Hope has captivated the hearts of young and old.Dr. King’s poignant words that are inscribed on the 453 feet Inscription Wall have inspired visitors to return to their own communities and live out his legacy of democracy, justice, hope, and love.As the foundation that built the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial, we were proud when thousands of attendees joined President Barack Obama to officially dedicate the Memorial on October 16, 2011. We are even more proud to continue our efforts as we ensure that the Memorial remains a physical beacon that inspires visitors to follow Dr. King’s example in their everyday lives. Our new name, The Memorial Foundation, Inc., reflects our new mission which is to promote awareness of the Memorial and its tenets of democracy, justice, hope, and love as well as to support the general upkeep of the Memorial in future years. As The Memorial Foundation, we remain committed to continue our track record of strong fiscal management, diverse leadership, and operating in a transparent and efficient manner.
