The Florida Group Psychotherapy Society (FGPS) serves as an affiliate voice specific to the interests of group psychotherapy. FGPS maintains the traditions of psychodynamic and other models of group psychotherapy. FGPS provides opportunities for psychotherapists to learn group therapy via programming and experiential training for those interested in how group dynamics affect individuals, families, communities, and the world of business.Our members provide a wealth of professional, educational, and social support for group psychotherapists in the state of Florida and come from many different disciplines, including Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, Mental Health Counseling, Social Work, Nursing, and Psychiatry. Trainings and social events are designed to mentor new professionals and students, expand and promote group therapy and enrich and rejuvenate established professionals.FGPS is committed to professional and cultural diversity. All mental health professions are welcome and well represented in our Society. Our membership of students, interns, residents, new professionals, established practitioners, and retirees helps create a community of inclusion, vitality, and creativity.FGPS is one of 31 affiliate societies of The American Group Psychotherapy Association (AGPA), the oldest and largest professional organization dedicated to the provision of education and professional development, research, and outreach services both nationally and internationally. As a multidisciplinary organization, it maintains the highest of professional standards and represents all levels of psychotherapy disciplines.We are committed to fostering the development of a community of group psychotherapists to fill Florida’s need for group therapy practitioners. We work to increase public awareness of group therapy and encourage and support the Certified Group Psychotherapist (CGP) process.
