Seattle-based novelist, poet, and songwriter Alex Rasmussen has spent more than a decade strumming his acoustic guitar and singing on various stages and sidewalks across the US.In his mid-twenties, Alex (now 37) took several road trips to San Francisco, funded with money made busking in the subway tunnels and on the streets of that storied city. These trips inspired Alex’s self-published novel, Coloring outside the Lines (2016), which he began selling out of an antique suitcase while performing around his water-logged hometown.Eventually, the road’s siren song grew too seductive, and Alex bought an old postal van and built a bed in the back. Leaning into a nomadic lifestyle, he started gigging across the country while working any odd-job he could find (construction, pedi-cabbing, selling goods for farmer’s-market merchants, etc.).Adventures in Nashville, Austin, Sedona, New Mexico, and the MIdwest—as well as long hours of quiet, which allowed for intense introspection—inspired a collection of poems, Inside out, which Alex self-published in 2019.After two more years of itchy feet—and an LA recording session with Grammy-winning producer, Sheldon Gomberg (Ben Harper, Lucinda Williams)—Alex faced health complications in late 2021 and hunkered down in Seattle to heal. This forced domestication turned out to be a blessing in disguise, as not only did Alex team up with local publisher Common Meter Press for the release of an anthology, Becoming Visible (2024), featuring twelve PNW poets, but he'll also be releasing his second novel, In This Void, through Seattle-based Chin Music Press in June of 2025.For music, videos, blogs, and more, visit (https://www.wordsandmusicbyalex.com).
