The Department of Informatics delivers the highest quality undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in computer science through the commitment and enthusiasm of its staff within a stimulating, research-led context. The Department is organised into research groups focusing on algorithms and data analysis, cybersecurity, distributed artificial intelligence, human centred computing, reasoning and planning, and software systems.Cross-cutting hubs in health, security, urban living and finance provide a virtual clustering of researchers from all parts of the Department, with the fifth hub (autonomous systems) providing a technology focus for the Department as a whole. The Department also leads the UKRI Centre for Doctoral Training in Safe and Trusted Artificial Intelligence, which is training a new generation of researchers in model-based AI approaches and their use in ensuring the safety and trustworthiness of AI systems.Interdisciplinary research and teaching initiatives are being developed with other departments in the Faculty of Natural, Mathematical & Engineering Sciences and across King's.The Department is located on the Strand Campus in the heart of central London, close to the cultural activities of the West End and the South Bank, the major departments of state at Whitehall, and the leading financial institutions of the City, and within easy reach of major transport links. The Department is based in the historic and recently redeveloped Bush House, which features state-of-the-art teaching and research spaces. Our staff and students come from all over the world, which provides a rich environment for teaching and research. Diversity is positively encouraged with a number of family-friendly policies in operation, including a core hours policy, the right to apply for flexible working, and support for staff returning from periods of extended absence, for example maternity leave. The Department boasts a friendly and inclusive culture, with regular social events bringing staff and students together.
