Lambda Kappa Mu Sorority, Inc., was founded on January 19, 1937, by Florence K. Norman and a group of twenty-five college-educated women, who were engaged in various professions and businesses. The Upper Manhattan Branch of the YMCA in New York City was the site of the deliberations as the women, sincere in the right of their convictions, began to lay the groundwork necessary to set in motion machinery for a National Sorority of African American business and professional women.XI Chapter (Syracuse, New York) was chartered in 1955. For over 65 years many women and youth have represented this chapter. Xi chapter has participated in various community events and provided service to help promote causes that impact our community.
