Welcome to Mangotsfield Primary English Hub. We are one of 34 schools, selected by the DfE for their expertise in teaching reading to support schools in their surrounding area. We provide tailored support to schools in Gloucestershire, South Gloucestershire and Bristol to improve the teaching of phonics and early reading, offer conferences and workshops both in-person and online, and run events to showcase excellent practice in teaching reading.All of our events areFREEand we look forward to working with you soon!Support provided by the English Hubs focuses on the following three areas:Early language development and 'closing the word gap'.Age-appropriate phonics provision: encouraging best practice in systematic synthetic phonics teaching. This includes encouraging fidelity to a single systematic synthetic phonics programme and supporting the effective use of decodable books in the early stages of learning to read as a way of establishing phonic decoding.Promoting a love of reading through a focus on reading aloud, developing teachers' knowledge of children's literature, supporting whole school reading approaches and encouraging reading at home.We have lots of FREE support and possible funding options available for local schools, academies and free schools to improve the teaching and learning in phonics, early language and the love of reading.
