HARVARD PROGRAM IN REFUGEE TRAUMA The Harvard Program in Refugee Trauma has spent 40 years caring for the health and mental needs of survivors of mass violence and torture through a combined practice of clinical experience and medical research. Its vision has remained the same throughout this time:To bring the advances of modern medical science to those members of our society who in spite of their great suffering have little access to care.DIVARIA PRODUCTIONS Based in New York City, Divaria Productions is dedicated to making the emotional power of opera accessible & approachable, providing emerging artists with a platform to perform and reaching out to people otherwise unable to attend opera, including patients with Alzheimers and other ailments. Divaria seeks to create one of a kind quality experiences that make opera easy to digest for a modern audience. Divaria strives to widen the audience for opera by interacting with other art forms like theatre, dance & film and by re-crafting stories to make them relatable and socially relevant for audiences of today. To this end, Divaria has partnered with multiple institutions including New York’s Saint Patrick’s Old Cathedral, the Sheen Center, the Italian-American Museum, Salome Chamber Orchestra, Sag Harbor's Bay Street Theatre and Spain’s Rioja Lirica to produce works such as a bilingual version of José Serrano’s Spanish zarzuela La Dolorosa which explored the struggles of immigrant women, Othello: The Opera & Play Enmeshed which blended Shakespeare’s and Verdi’s Othellos, and Don Giovanni in New York a historical reenactment of NY’s first Italian opera production in 1826, commemorating Mozart’s librettist & early Italian immigrant Lorenzo da Ponte. During the pandemic, we created and presented Rival Queens, a new art form merging documentary film and opera that told the story of Mary Queen of Scots & Queen Elizabeth, as a “historic metaphor for the tragedy of judgment and choosing fear over trust, painting a powerful picture of the destruction that the naked push for power leaves in its wake which has been featured in 13 international film festivals and won 5 awards.
