Under the Bridge (UTB) is an upcoming dance collective that connects dance artists of multiple generations and diverse practices through their shared love for movement.Through the on-going development of an inter-disciplinary and multicultural movement vocabulary, UTB’s work oscillates between Contemporary, Street and Asian dance forms. In particular, their recent works and performances integrate Bharathanatyam (an Indian Classical Dance form), Street dance, and Western-Asian Contemporary. The intentional weaving of various dance forms, from the dancers’ training backgrounds, not only appeals to diverse audiences, but also bridges the cultural traditions we see and feel in Singapore into one seamless fabric through dance.What started out as a grassroots initiative to nurture collaboration among artistes has now developed into conducting workshops, staging performances, and creating for international dance festivals; allowing UTB to also serve as a cultural ambassador for Singapore.Their commitment to dance innovation has been re-shaping local perceptions of traditional dance forms, and has inspired appreciation for cultural diversity amongst dancers and audiences alike.UTB aims for its impact to extend beyond just staging captivating performances, and into fostering a sense of unity and oneness amongst dance practitioners in Singapore.
