Ling Lu, born and raised in a musical family, she learned to play piano at a very young age. In 1994, she was admitted into the Department of Choral Conducting at the Russian Gnesins Academy of Music as a postgraduate student to further her pursuit of music conducting. She completed her master’s degree in music with excellent achievement. In 2000, she became a doctoral student majoring in conducting, under the guidance of Professor Stanislav Kalinin, Dean of the Choral Conducting Department at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory. She completed her doctorate degree with honours in November 2004. During the period of her studies in Moscow, she participated in many different types of concerts and successfully conducted numerous choirs, including the Gnesins Chamber Choir, Choir of the Russian Gnesins Academy of Music, Choir of the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory and the Moscow National Academy Choir of Kazanikov in the Gnesins Concert Hall and Rachmaninov Concert Hall of the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, etc. After immigrating to Canada, she has been active in various music activities. In February 2004, she attended the Vancouver Chamber Choir’s 24th National Conductors’ Symposium and conducted the performance of “Because of the Wind” at the Vancouver Playhouse. Ms. Lu has been conducting the Vancouver Chinese Choir for the past ten seasons.
