There's no question about it- DJs are the new rockstars. They headline festivals, dominate the airwaves, and play catchy hits that everyone loves. But how do they do it? What is it that makes a great DJ so great? What are they really doing with all of those knobs and buttons? What are they doing with those headphones all the time? And what in the world is that awesome music they're playing?Bring your friends and join Dan Quinn (www.danquinnband.com) for Level 1 or Level 2 of Southlake DJ Camp, where we'll learn about what a DJ does, how and why they do it, and get hands on experience with real DJ equipment, ending with a showcase performance by each student at the end of the camp.Level 1 topics covered will include different genres of music and how DJs came about, basic music concepts such as beats, bars and tempos, beat matching, cueing/hot cueing, crossfading, filtering, effects, and concepts such as slip mode and scratching (because everyone wants to try the "wikiwiki" thing at least once).Level 2 will dive deeper into track selection and music library management, performance setup and requirements, sampling, sequencing, and advanced performance tricks used by the pros. All equipment will be provided including Pioneer DDJ-RB Controllers and laptop computers loaded with music and PioneerRekordboxsoftware. Students will work in pairs on each station, and each Level 1 student will receive a set of DJ headphones to keep at the end of the week.On the final day of camp, each student will have the opportunity to showcase what they've learned and put on a short 10-12 minute dance set for their parents and classmates!
