Emma is a midwife working in the NHS for over 15 years. Qualifying as a midwife in 2011 she worked at Royal Surrey County Hospital, Guildford completing her preceptorship and having her first introduction to breech birth. In 2012 she moved to St George's NHS Foundation Trust, London to gain more experience in complex maternity care. Here she worked in all areas of midwifery but keeping physiological birth at the core of her practice. She worked as a labour ward coordinator and following this in 2015 she became the Lead Midwife for the Birth Centre. It was around this time Emma attended Dr Shawn Walkers Physiological Breech Birth Training Day recognising a need for further training in this area and underpinning her interest and passion in supporting women's choice. Following attendance at the training Emma began working with Shawn supporting her training and beginning to teach herself with Breech Birth Network. In 2017 she became the Training Coordinator for Breech Birth Network, CIC and set up a breech birth service at St George's Hospital. In 2020 Emma joined Kingston NHS Foundation Trust as the Consultant Midwife. As part of her role she developed a breech birth service which is now a well established service within Kingston Maternity. Emma is now the Deputy Director of Midwifery at Kingston Hospital but still leads the breech service regularly counselling women and birthing people as well as going on-call supporting mothers in their choice to have a vaginal breech birth. Emma also continues to deliver training and supports her team to develop their own breech skills and deliver training through in house and external training days.
