Blossoming Communities CIC was created in March 2021 as a response to the increase in isolation and mental health issues resulting from COVID 19. It started to deliver wellbeing workshops in November 2021.The organisation was created by Jenny Earl, Sue Barnard and Sharon Stirling, 3 friends who met doing community work and share an enjoyment in arts and crafts. They have a wealth of experience, an interest in mental health and a passion for change.Blossoming Communities aims to improve mental health and wellbeing and reduce isolation by delivering arts and crafts workshops with a wellbeing twist. Our workshops are tailored to the needs and interests of the community. The sessions focus on wellbeing, peer support and discussion, whilst participating in feel good crafting activity. The workshops are delivered in accessible community venues in Northumberland, primarily in the South East of the County. These workshops are open to all adults, most of those attending are females over 50 years old. The work we do has been well received by organisations and individuals, allowing the project to go from strength to strength. In 2022 we ran an Elf School in Seaton Sluice Community Centre. This was primarily to raise funds, but also to give back to the community, by providing free tickets to those in need. The event was a massive success with excellent feedback from the children and their grown ups. The volunteers that took part said it was the best mental health activity they had ever taken part in. Dressing up, seeing the joy and wonder on the c children's faces and having fun. children learn elf skills and get to meet Santa. In 2023 we teamed up with the Krazee Krafters and were lucky enough to secure funding to enable all of the children from Seaton Sluice First School and New Hartley First School to receive free tickets to attend. The funding came from the Ted Weekes Fund at the Community Foundation. Ted Weekes was a local councillor, who left a legacy to support children from the two villages.2024 we are back again. We are holing the event in New Hartley Memorial Hall on the 21st and 22nd of December and very much looing forward to it.If you require any more information on our workshops or Elf School, please do not hesitate to contact us.
