My name is Ellen Storm and I am the founder and director of U-Turn Health. I am also a children's doctor working for the NHS and the mother of twin girls. I have been 'vegetarian' (occasional fish) since the age of eight, vegan for 16 years and increasingly high raw for 11 years. I am certified in plant-based nutrition from eCornell University, 2023 was my 5th year attending the UK Fruitfest organised by Ronnie Smith, and 2024 was my first year attending the Woodstock Fruit Festival in Florida. I have been dancing 5RHYTHMS and Open Floor for 12 years, and writing poetry since I was a teenager. In 2014 I won first prize in the Hippocrates Prize for Poetry and Medicine, and I read my winning poem in Westminster at an All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Arts for Health and Wellbeing meeting. This kicked off an enduring interest in the relationship between the creative arts and the medical humanities, and also led to me acquiring an MA degree in creative writing from Lancaster University two years later. I am now the author of the booksDiseases Have Causes: One Doctor’s Journey with an Apple and a Pen, andCollected Poems and Songs (1989 to 2024). My mission with U-Turn Health is to create and hold space for people to invite low fat, high raw, plant-based nutrition into their spheres of consciousness and ways of living, using the powerful tools of embodied movement and creative reflection for health and wellbeing across the lifespan.
