Colleen started fundraising by asking for sponsorship to run races for charity. After a while she didn't feel comfortable asking her friends every year for sponsorship. Colleen came up with the idea to host events instead which she started in 2006. Over the years she has held craft fairs, Halloween parties and a Scottish themed event on the last Saturday in Jan. To date, the Scottish Event has continued as the main event of the year.
