Lampeter Chamber Orchestra was founded in 2005 by Dr George Lilley, to give local players, especially young players, the opportunity to rehearse and perform the classical music repertoire. Some of its young members have gone on to study at conservatoires or have appeared as soloists with other orchestras. Several currently play in the Three Counties Youth Orchestra. In 2009 we were delighted to accept the position of Orchestra in Residence at the University of Wales, Trinity Saint David,
Lampeter.The Orchestra gives up to five concerts in each season in and around Lampeter. It has won a reputation for performances of a high standard in a wide-ranging, adventurous repertoire featuring composers such as Wagner, Elgar, Puccini, Prokofiev and Bartok alongside Handel, Bach, Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert. "We are always on the look-out for new talent of all ages." says Dr George Lilley, founder and committee member, "A Chamber orchestra, by definition, has only a few players of each instrument. We number 30 at the most, whereas a full symphony orchestra may have 90 or 100. This, of course, enables us to take classical music to smaller communities". Although several members of the Orchestra are connected with the University, it is not a 'University Orchestra', being drawn from both Town and Gown....
