Are you thinking about buying your first sewing machine but aren’t quite sure that sewing is going to be “your thing” or do you already have a sewing machine but feel you need a bit more guidance before you’d be confident to use it. This workshop could be just what you’re looking for!
In this one day workshop you will be provided with the use of one of our Janome sewing machines. Your tutor will guide you through its functions, how to set it up and then get you started sewing on it. During the morning you will learn the basics, sewing in straight lines, pivoting at corners, changing stitch length and width and looking at tension and how to use it. In the afternoon when you’re feeling more confident you will go on to learn how to make a reversible zero waste Tote bag. This will increase your Sewing knowledge by teaching you how to sew box corners, curves and top stitching, creating a beautiful reversible tote bag to take home at the end of the day.
Classes are kept small (max 6) giving the tutor time to spend with each person and allowing you to ask any questions you may have throughout the day
What the class will cover:
Setting up a sewing machine
The parts of a sewing machine and their function
Threading a sewing machine
Winding a bobbin
Changing needles
Stitch selection
Adjusting stitch length and width if applicable
Adjusting tension
What you need to bring:
Glasses for close up work if you need them
All sewing machines, fabrics, threads, scissors etc will be provided on the day.
The session will run from 10.30am to 3.30pm . Experience level: Beginners
Your tutor for this class will be Jill Harrison who is on of our course trainers and has her own makers business which focuses on creating beautiful bags.
