Signwriting - traditional canal art with Phil Speight

Phil Speight, respected craftsman of the canals, returns to Bollington Wharf to deliver a friendly and expert class in signwriting - including lettering, spacing and shading. Ideal for those wanting to sign write their own boat name, or for anyone interested in traditional sign writing by hand.

Phil Speight is one of the best known practitioners of canal art, whose work has regularly featured in books and museum exhibitions, as well as on hundreds of narrowboats and in a Guardian photo feature - click here to see him at work.
