Sound & Movement Sanctuary (SMS) is an initiative created by Devaki Thomas, in 2020, located in SE London, UK, collating her years of experience in Movement Psychotherapy, Therapeutic Hatha Yoga, Music to Heal & Dance to Connect. Started in response to the pandemic and subsequent lack of connection. Online sessions in movement and sound have received many positive reviews bringing participants connection, release, relaxation, healing and grounding.Devaki graduated with an Masters in Dance Movement Psychotherapist from Goldsmiths, University of London (2020) and received a Bachelor (Hons)in Education, Culture & Society from the same and most recently qualified as a Mental Health First Aid practitioner. Obtaining a 200hr teacher training certificate in Hatha Yoga in Kerala, India in 2015, she also holds a Diploma in Odissi, Indian Classical dance from The Bhavan London and has trained in Bharatanatyam dance since the age of 14.With a lifetime in the arts as a musician with award-winning bands Samsara & Stunflower, a director of international music festivals and art-centres, founder/instructor of an Indian dance school, head of marketing & creative programming for UK arts organizations this new chapter is dedicated to connecting, healing, growing and learning through body-movement and sound-explorations.Working with clients ranging in ages from 3 to 68 years, Devaki brings a strong sense of empathy and dedication to help participants understand and express themselves through movement and music to enable relaxation, release, self-awareness-compassion-reliance. She holds a strong belief that everyone has the capacity to move through places of trauma held in the body by re-building trust within the therapeutic relationship and using the body to express/understand difficult emotions. Offering online and in-person workshops, collaborations, sessions and performances SMS launched in November 2020 and continues with added courses and new ideas.
