Ayah is a mixed media artist whose visual narratives celebrate the identities of people of color, and center female archetypes. Her featureless abstracted figures draw from Caribbean, Islamic, and Cubist influences. Black diasporic culture, music, film, literature, and spirituality also serve as inspiration. Much of her work incorporates found objects, collage, and brightly colored acrylic paint. Ayah is currently exploring chromotherapy - the use of vivid color to positively affect moods and emotions, and to promote healing.Ayah has a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Howard University, with experience in interior design and fashion. Her lived experiences at the intersectionality of a Jamaican immigrant, a black woman, a convert to Islam, and a single mother of five, shape the stories she tells through her art.
