Orchard is a registered charity focused on improving the lives of individuals suffering from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). Our organization brings together interdisciplinary professionals with a deep commitment to mental health, aiming to address the challenges faced by those affected by this highly disabling psychiatric condition. Recognized globally as one of the most debilitating illnesses by the World Health Organisation, OCD impacts 1.6%-3% of the global population, with approximately 750,000 cases in the UK alone. It manifests through uncontrollable obsessions and compulsions, leading to intense anxiety, disruption of daily life, and, often, severe isolation. Notably, over 60% of OCD patients also suffer from depression, and a staggering 1 out of 8 may commit suicide. Our mission at Orchard is threefold. Firstly, we focus on research, dedicating resources to fund and conduct innovative scientific studies. These efforts are crucial in identifying and developing new and more effective treatments for OCD, particularly as up to 40% of patients do not respond to current first-line therapies. Secondly, we maintain Hubs, which serve as comprehensive databases and repositories for OCD research. This facilitates the sharing of information and enhances the collective understanding of the disorder. Lastly, we emphasize dissemination through awareness campaigns and conferences, raising public knowledge of OCD and its impact.By these means, Orchard aims to be a beacon of hope for the OCD community. Our goal is to ensure that individuals suffering from OCD can access timely and effective treatment, thereby improving their quality of life and reducing the associated risks of depression and suicide. Through pioneering research and a commitment to awareness and education, we strive for a world where the silent torment of OCD is addressed with compassion and scientific rigour.
