In 2007, Team Ta Ta's started out with just three of us; Kathie Geleta, Nichole Geleta, and Kaitlyn Geleta. The goal of the Team was to participate in “The Weekend to End Breast Cancer 60 Km walk”. Team Ta Ta's was born as a celebration of Kathie's successful battle against breast cancer and to support her recovery. Each of us determined to raise the $2,000.00 required to participate and more! The response to our little team was overwhelming! In a short six months the three of us raised an amazing $21,250.00 with very little effort! After the blisters healed the Team determined that we would continue on raising money to support the Alberta Cancer Foundation through participation in “The Weekend” walks for the next five years raising in excess of $300,000.00. Throughout the years Team Ta Ta’s has garnered tremendous support from very dedicated and loyal sponsors. Consequently when the Alberta Cancer Foundation approached us to continue on after the “Weekend” walks wrapped up we agreed! So here we are with our own Webpage to continue waging the battle against these devastating diseases!Cancer has touched the members of Team Ta Ta’s in different ways. To help the Alberta Cancer Foundation, we have decided the dollars we raise in 2015 will go to women’s cancer research. Research is vital to help understand why cancer occurs and how it can be detected and treated more effectively. It is where all of today’s ‘standard treatments’ have come from. The research of today will continue to lead to better prevention strategies, treatments and care for the future. The integration of research with cancer treatment not only advances knowledge about cancer, but also provides direct benefits to Albertans and the care that they receive. As a direct result of an integrated model, Albertans are able to access leading treatments through clinical trials, three to seven years before the treatments become standard care.Team Ta Ta’s is not only dedicated to fighting the battle against women’s cancers, but is the sister team to Team Mo Ta Ta’s, a group of men dedicated to the fight against prostate cancer. If this cause is closer to your heart, please do not hesitate to contact Team Ta Ta’s for more information on supporting Mo Ta Ta’s.
