Terrace Hill is an architectural marvel that was built as a private home in 1869 for Benjamin Franklin Allen and his family. It was eventually sold to Frederick Marion Hubbell in 1884 and was occupied by members of the Hubbell family for the next 70 years. In 1971, the Hubbell family graciously donated the home to the State of Iowa, and now Terrace Hill is the official Iowa Governor’s Residence. In 2003, Terrace Hill was designated as a National Historic Landmark.Terrace Hill is open for tours March through December and is closed on holidays. Guided Tours are given by reservation only and must be made 48 hours in advance. Please call 515-281-7205 to make a reservation.
