I’ve worked in Financial Services for over 10 years. Since moving over to the advice side and becoming a Financial Planner, it struck me how many of my friends, colleagues and connections said to me they didn’t really understand the world of finance, and they found it quite an intimidating subject. I found this quite intriguing, and when digging deeper, I discovered all of the different reasons as to why this was the case. From advisers who would only pay attention to the male in the room, through to the biased language used on marketing , and also the lack of acknowledgement around how different the financial milestones are in a woman’s life compared to their male counterpart (the gender pay gap, taking time off work due to caring for children or elderly relatives, menopause, and women living longer to name but a few) mean that many women have shied away from financial advice. Either because they don’t feel their individual needs are understood, or aren’t confident enough to try to tackle it themselves and don’t want to feel intimidated in front of an adviser. My goal is to give you the confidence to manage your finances better, the education to feel confident when making decisions, and taking the next step to seek financial advice when it’s needed without feeling intimidated.
