What Hoboken Sounds Like is a non-profit organization founded in April 2021 by Victor Lopez Jr. with a mission to showcase the music, culture, and untold stories of Hoboken, New Jersey. More than just a music platform, What Hoboken Sounds Like serves as a community-driven movement that amplifies local voices, whether through hip-hop, art, fashion, entrepreneurship, or social activism. By creating spaces for creative expression and highlighting the struggles and triumphs of underserved communities, the organization ensures that Hoboken's unique identity is both preserved and celebrated.Since its inception, What Hoboken Sounds Like has curated live events, digital content, and cultural initiatives that bring people together. This includes Summer Blockfest, an annual festival inspired by J. Cole's Dreamville Festival, which unites musicians, entrepreneurs, and creatives in a vibrant celebration of music, art, and community impact.Beyond entertainment, What Hoboken Sounds Like engages in youth mentorship, social awareness campaigns, and collaborations with organizations that align with its vision. Whether through exclusive interviews, live performances, storytelling, or cultural discussions, the platform remains committed to uplifting and empowering Hoboken’s creative scene.In recognition of his unwavering dedication to the arts and the community, founder Victor Lopez Jr. was honored with a proclamation from the City of Hoboken in October 2024 for his contributions through What Hoboken Sounds Like. This acknowledgment underscores the organization's impact in preserving Hoboken’s cultural heritage and providing a platform for voices that deserve to be heard.With a passionate team, dedicated leadership, and a growing influence in the region, What Hoboken Sounds Like continues to shape the narrative of what it means to be a creator in Hoboken. It’s more than just sound—it’s a movement.
