Thomi Clinton is the Chief Executive Officer of The Transgender Health and Wellness Center (THAWC). She is a transgender woman, and she founded THAWC in 2015 with only ten thousand dollars. Thomi is originally from Arkansas. She came to Southern California in 2000, and after getting her feet wet with other non-profit organizations, she started THAWC to provide transgender health care and social services. She never dreamed she could grow the organization so quickly. Today, THAWC has a budget of just under a million dollars, and Thomi was recently asked to sit on a White House committee on transgender healthcare. This committee was created to give recommendations to President Biden on transgender health disparities. They are hoping to correct some of these disparities, so that the government can create policy to improve health equity throughout the entire nation. Thomi also sat on a committee under George W Bush to create national policies for the Prison Rape Elimination Act, to form laws to protect Trans people from abuse in prisons. Some of her recommendations were given to the National Institute of Corrections, and 100% of those were implemented. She has also worked with the Inland Empire Health Plan, a Medi-Cal Management Program serving 1.4 million members. She helped them to create their first ever gender health policies and guidelines, to open up access for low income trans people to get healthcare in the Inland Empire.
