In 2005 after a decade of teaching, Troy Harris, CanWES Founder, knew that he wanted to help people in some way. After a trek in Nepal with guide Mahindra Dahal, he learned about the roadblocks Nepalese children faced with access to education. In 2007, he created the nonprofit, CanWES, and its goal to build a school. CanWES is the sole provider of funds for EES: donations go towards building maintenance, curriculum resources and school supplie, student uniforms, sporting equipment, and salaries.Since April 2008, the Everest English School has been a working and thriving school that has grown to be the heart of the entire community in Sanitar, Nepal. Students are excited to attend the Everest English School with the hope of providing a better educational future for their entire family. While they spend the day learning in classrooms, they bring knowledge and understanding back with them to share it inside their homes with their family members. It is the "CanWES Commitment" to send $10,000 CAD every 3 months to the Everest English School in Sanitar, Nepal. So, we host fundraisers - music nights, golf tournaments, flower basket sales...CanWES is very proud that 95+% OF ALL DONATIONS go directly to the cause in Nepal as well as for scholarships to local students who are committed to enhancing their own education here in Canada. All members of the CanWES Board of Directors are volunteers, and do not profit from donations or fundraising efforts.
