The Translational Institute of Medicine (TIME) is a virtual institute comprised of over 200 basic and clinician-scientists. It was created to capture the breadth of translational research at Queen’s University, and maximize sharing of state-of-the-art research platforms and expertise between research groups in the Department of Medicine and their collaborators. TIME currently comprises seven research groups whose interests span the spectrum of translational research.Cofounded by Drs. Stephen Vanner and Stephen Archer, TIME vision embraces a culture of collaborative and interdisciplinary translational health research that will accelerate the discovery of novel and effective clinical therapies, as well as develop integration into clinical practice to improve patient care. TIME aims to achieve its vision through:State-of-the-art research platforms supported by scientists as highly qualified personnel(HQP)Interdisciplinary research meetings, seminars, and training opportunitiesTIME Research Network, a web-based tool where members identify equipment andexpertise to compete at the highest levelA new Translational Medicine Graduate ProgramIncubator grant competitions that enable its members to collaborate using TIME’s infrastructureThe Faculty of Health Sciences already enjoys a rich culture of high impact research that places Queen’s University on an international stage. TIME capitalizes upon this existing infrastructure and facilitates strategic collaboration between existing research groups and HQPs employed by TIME. TIME’s Translational Medicine Graduate Program allows students to study at the intersection between the clinic and laboratory while gaining the expertise required to be future leaders of Translational Medicine in Canada and beyond.
