We Are the Promised Land is a multi-media altar to Black land legacies in the Mississippi Hill Country that centers Annette Hollowell, her family, and their land, Foxfire Ranch. We organize bothonline and in-person events, including panels, community listening parties, and immersive storytelling and cultural mapping installations. These events feature renowned artists from the Hill Country, our amazing collaborators, powerful Indigenous voices, and brilliant Black Mississippians. Our intentions with these events is to promote dynamic community dialogue abouthistory, shared ancestry, cultural inheritance, and the evolution of traditions. Our sonic altar and website will launch in Summer 2025.This project was made possible with generous support from The Mississippi Center for Cultural Production, The National Performance Network, Carpetbag Theatre, The Mississippi Hills Heritage Area Foundation, The Mississippi Presenters Network, Alternate ROOTs, The Center for the Gulf South at Tulane, and The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Foundation.
