About This Event

'My heart is full of gratitude for the experiences I have had this weekend. The memories I will treasure forever. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.' (S - 2023 Participant)

Come and walk with me on the land of the ancestors.

Arrive at Sacred Springs, connect with ancient chambers, feel into hilltop earth energies and pyramidial mounds and walk the ancient pathways into Avebury.

This is more than a drum birthing retreat - this journey is about connecting to the land and its energy, feeling in to what it is sharing with us and how we can work with it, and the drums we are bringing into the world, for the greatest good of all.

We arrive at 12pm on Friday 16th August 2024 near West Kennet Long Barrow. Here we will begin our journey - opening with a sacred circle and setting our intentions, meeting our hide and hoops and visiting 3 powerful earth energy centres.

Later we check in to our hotel - single board accommodation is included with breakfast for 2 nights - and should you wish, you can join us for dinner in the hotel restaurant (at your expense).

On the Saturday we rise and meet over breakfast, travelling this time high on to White Horse hills to connect to the land and feel its energetic presence, drumming together as we land deeper in this sacred landscape.

Then we move into woodlands to cut the lacing for our drums and perhaps be blessed with a beater stick before travelling down into Avebury, with time to visit the shops before sitting within the ley line energy and birthing our drums.

We end the day with a meal together - with main meal and first drink included, before retiring for the evening.

On the final day we rise and meet over breakfast, taking our drums to The Sanctuary - to connect in with its special energy and open our final day together. We add crystals and finalise our drums before moving down to the Avenue and ritually walking with new drum in hand along the avenue of stones and into Avebury. We will drum round the circle, meet the Tolkien trees and land at the Cove, creating our beater before activating our drums on the ley line energy, witnessed and welcomed by our journey brothers and sisters.

We end at 4pm on Sunday 18th August 2024.

This is a wonderful event, a time to connect with sacred landscapes, to be reverential as we step into places used and honoured by the ancestors and to invite that energy to infuse our hides and hoops - creating a mighty drum, a powerful drum, a drum linked to these special lands.

No experience of drumming or drum making or land based work is required. This retreat is open to all.*

Melonie runs drum circles, retreats, training and drum birthing (making) workshops for individuals and groups. She is the founder of Sacred Women's Drum Circles and The Association of Women Drummers, Makers and Players.Melonie first met the drums in 2012 and started running drum circles in 2014. She also ran a 'red tent'. The more Melonie drummed with others, the more these circles evolved. She now combines the safe space and authentic sharing of the Red Tent with the healing and transformational power of the drums.Personally, as the drums took her deeper, she found herself drumming in wild lands, ancient barrows, on top of cliffs and even in the sea!Melonie started running drum birthing workshops in 2017 and the more drums that come into the world, the more she learns. The drums 'speak' to her, showing her what they want to look like, how and where they want to be played. Her making has evolved and at times she can not believe what is 'becoming' before her eyes.Melonie's own path continues to deepen as the drums take her to sacred sites and guide her in working with the land.Prior to stepping out full time as thedrumwoman, Melonie was a Primary School Teacher. Her specialism was PSHE and, as such, she was responsible for Sex Education. Melonie's own journey has been one of endometriosis - debilitating menstrual pain - which she believes has ancestral roots and was 'fed' by early age body hatred and a disconnect from her cyclical nature. Finding herself responsible for teaching about menstruation and puberty fuelled her to make a difference and she became nationally known for her work with puberty, menstruation, sex and relationships. In her early 30's Melonie was told that the 'endometriosis could not be cured' and this didn't sit right with her. She embarked on a holistic journey and found herself pain free for the first time since her first bleed. It was during this journey that she found women's circles, womb healing, drumming and herself. In 2017 she stepped out of schools and into self employed life. She has never looked back. She lives in North Essex and runs drum circles across Essex and London. Her workshops take place across the UK and sometimes Online. She published her first book 'How to Support your Daughter through Puberty - A practical guide for mums' in 2020, it is the first in her 'How to' series.
