Msc Neuro Physiotherapy - Ongoing

In 2010 I set out on a journey to find inner peace after realizing that I couldn’t continue to live with myself after years of struggling with my body & mind.

I had battled existential crisis for many years, with depression, anxiety, fear and ultimately the thought of not existing. One of the many reasons for my struggle was suffering a brain injury that left me with residual mild right-sided muscle weakness as well as challenges with balance and coordination. This left me wondering how living in a body could feel so restrictive.

Additionally, moving schools a lot whilst growing up left me vulnerable to bullies. My biggest bully, however, turned out to be within myself. For this reason, I left everything I had ever known, by the age of twenty, to travel the world in search of a deeper sense of meaning, connection, and satisfaction. The journey led me to a yoga ashram in India, where I would begin to learn the depths of the practice.

Reflecting back on it, I feel yoga literally saved my life.

After a few years of yogic studies, self-inquiries, and extensive months of voluntary work throughout the world, I felt a strong urge to further my academic knowledge and have more tools in my toolbox of life to help others.

So in 2015 I decided to start studying a Bachelor of Physiotherapy.

I finished my degree in 2018 while also certifying as a gym group instructor, beginning to teach classes involving the principles of cardiovascular and progressive resistance (strength) training.

In 2020 I also began a master of Neurophysiotherapy and obtained a certificate in Personal Training.

My style of teaching involves focusing on acceptance and exploring the physical, mental and emotional states without judgment. It is a constant journey of learning and growing, sometimes painful, sometimes pleasant - but always changing - such as life.

About Shuddhachittam ( previously known as Anna Ellery)

Shuddha teaches Traditional Hatha Yoga, guiding students to witness the body, breath and thoughts, creating mindfulness through Yoga. She believes that mind and body healing can be experienced through the traditional Yoga postures, bestowing benefits to the practitioner by holding the poses and repetition. Shuddha also has an ardent interest in alignment in her classes and regularly attends Iyengar classes to deepen her experience of postural awareness.

Shuddha’s interest in spirituality started from a young age when she practiced meditation with the desire to astrally project and see auras… unfortunately she didn’t succeed at that time! She has travelled to India 8 times and has attended various courses in the Tantric traditional practices of Chakra Shuddhi, Prana Vidya, Tattwa Shuddhi, Puja, Havan and Yajnas.

Shuddha started practicing Yoga when she was 14 years old at the Sivananda Yoga Ashram in Perth. 9 years later she completed her first teacher training and started teaching in 2005. Shuddha has completed over 1900 hrs of Yoga teacher training and lived as a Yoga Monk (Sannyasin) at the Bihar School of Yoga from 2011-2013. She has her own daily practice of Yoga and Meditation and frequently attends Vipassana meditation silent retreats to deepen her practice. Meditation is one of the main passions in her life as it has helped her to gain greater insight into herself and the tools to help maintain emotional equilibrium through the ups and downs that life offers.

Shuddha is also a qualified Hypnotherapist, Theta Healer and Ayurvedic Consultant and Massage therapist.
